Colleen G. Slaughter, 80, died on Friday, April 13, 2007 in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Shane Brue, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
She was born January 29, 1927 in Madison Kansas and moved with her family to Texas in 1932. Her parents, Ray and Lillian Slaughter and her brother, Keith Slaughter preceded her in death.
Colleen graduated from Big Spring High School in 1943 as class valedictorian. She received her BA Degree in Spanish from Texas Women's University in 1943 and her Master's Degree in 1950.
Her teaching career covered 46 years. Her first two years were in Midland, then 38 years at Big Spring High School. She retired in 1987 and then taught Spanish six years at Forsan High School as a part-time teacher.

During the summers she enjoyed studying and traveling in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia. She was very pleased by having received a Fulbright scholarship to attend the University of the Andes in Bogota, Colombia. She also traveled in Spain, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile and many other countries.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was an active member as a teacher of the Philathea Sunday School class. She was also a volunteer at Scenic Mountain Medical Center for many years.

Survivors include her sister, Erma Jean Phillips of North Wales, Pennsylvania; a niece, Lisa Ann Phillips of North Wales, Pennsylvania; three nephews, David Phillips of Roslyn, Pennsylvania, Ronald Phillips and wife, Carmen of Harleysville, Pennsylvania and Michael Phillips and wife, Cathy of Port Orange, Florida; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1229, Big Spring, Texas 79721-1229 or to a favorite Charity.
