James Estle Boyter of Dallas died May 12, 2008.
Born June 7, 1935 at home in Kilgore, Texas to Johney Faye Hunt Boyter and Ralph Estle Boyter, Jim attended Kilgore schools and graduated from Big Spring High School. He was inducted into the Big Spring High School Hall of Fame for contributing to the winning Steers football team of 1954 where he was known as “Ace”.
Jim spent four years in the Marine Corp achieving the rank of Sergeant while serving in Japan and Korea. Graduating from Texas Tech in 1964, Jim was licensed as an Architect in 1968 and was the designer of many fine buildings in Texas and the 16 other states in which he held licenses. Spending most of his career as principal of his own firm, Jim was mentor to many employees and clients over the years including influencing his son Rayce to become an Architect. Passionate about the building science, Mr. Boyter practiced architecture through December of 2007.
From the age of nine when Jim began caddying at the Kilgore Country Club, the sport of golf was a big part of his life. During his college years he was awarded two Double Eagle Awards by Golf Digest Magazine where it is recorded that at the time he had the longest Double Eagle and the most number of Double Eagles recorded by an amateur. Mr. Boyter shared his love of golf with his brothers, both of his children and many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include two children and their mothers; daughter, Casey Boyter of Austin and her mother, Donna Boyter of Dallas, son, Rayce Boyter of the Woodlands and his mother, Mary Lou Boyter of Richardson. Rayce and his wife Janan made Jim the proud “Gogi” to two young grandsons, Dylan Hayes Boyter and Clayton James Boyter.
Also surviving is Jim’s mother, Johney Faye Scott, sister, Alice Faye Jackson and brother, Steven Ralph Boyter all of Vivian, Louisiana, brother, Bryan Ray Boyter, sisters, Catherine Brown and Terri Brownfield all of Garland, brother, Jack Robert Boyter of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Jerry Boyter of California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Boyter is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Boyter, brother, Harry Eugene Boyter, sister, Perry Lynn Boyter and sister, Peggy Womble Black.
A memorial celebration will be held at a future date.
